Athlete. Mom.

I've found this summer's Olympics to be very encouraging. Though the gymnasts are mere babes, there are many other highly competitive athletes at these games that are still older than me AND they have a child!

Now add to that list yesterday's winner - by a lot! - of the women's marathon, Constantina Tomescu. In addition to having a kid, at 38, she was the oldest competitor to ever win this event.

I haven't been watching as much as I'd like, but I have been AMAZED by the older athletes like Dara Torres and that 33 year old gymnast from Germany, I think...that even has a child! Good for them!

today as I ran my half marathon, I thought of one of the Olympic women running last night, and she pushed me through!

It is so great to see these moms competing in all of these different events, not just competing but winning too!! It shows the world that once you have children your fitness path doesn't have to end. I see it every morning in our StrollerFit classes, the dedication and the determination that moms all over the country and the world have to show their children you can be a mom and an athlete at the same time and be wonderful at both!
Go mommymuscle!!!!

I was thinking about Constantina Tomescu-Dita during my run yesterday. If she can do it at 38, so can I.
