Non-running blog...sorry....need advise of on-line buddies

Ok.... I decided to re-enter the work force. Only 8-12 hours a week as a clinical nursing instructor at the local community college. I accepted the job and then, and only then noticed the other clinical instructors name on the schedule..........
Have you ever had a co-worker that just rubbed you wrong in EVERY POSSIBLE WAY??? I mean really...... I don't like to use the word "hate", but I really get that feeling when I am around her. Well, I should say, I haven't seen or worked with her in over 5 years..............
What should I do?? I almost turned the job down, but is is a good stepping stone to better instructor positions in the future...
Please help and tell me how you'd all handle such a mess!!

Congrats on the re-entering. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Do you have to work with this person everyday? I would just go about my business and try not to be around this person as much as possible. I cannot stand one of my colleagues.

I so know where you're coming from. I lived across from such a character for a long time. Your heart freezes with dread, you literally loathe looking at her?

You know, instead of hating her, the thing to do is to actually have sympathy for her, that she is such a difficult person...and let your sympathy for her show. When you talk to her, do it as you would an obstinate child, one to whom you must explain for the fiftieth time a very basic, elemental thing.

Yeah. Try that. Because that's exactly how I ended up treating this lady. Shortly after, she had a nervous breakdown. Did I contribute to it? Could be. Do I feel guilty? No. A little reality never hurt anybody.

Good luck!

I actually won't have to deal with her very often. We will teach opposite days. I am thinking that I will act as if I don't even remember her....and then, I like what Kimzey said. I just can't let this opportunity to teach get by.

If it were me ( and its been me a few times) I would go out of my way to be as nice to the person as possible. Kill them with kindness so to speak. I would acknowledge her as a past associate and just be nice. Most people are unaware of their annoying behaviors and don't intend them. Try to treat her the way you would like to be treated, respectfully. It sounds like you won't run into her much either, so from your perspective, your interaction will be short and sweet. Focus on what you have in common and not your differences. And don't pay attention to a negative response..if that's what you get... just let it go, don't let it take on a life of its own,.. move on to the next thing. Life is too short! Congratulations on the new job. Go for it!

I did it! I was nice, I "vaguely" recalled her and everything was fine. The job pays pennies but is fun. Thanks for all the support!!
