Army Ten Miler

Crumbs has thrown the idea out that we (SMR mommies) converge on the Army Ten Miler in October in Virginia. Running around the Pentagon sounds like fun! I am unable to commit right now (with luck, I'll be making a trip to So. Cal. in Nov. Details to follow as necessary ;) ) but it seems like a good goal to aim for. Is there momentum out there for this?

Great idea! Just remind me when to sign up! I hope to get in for the MCM, and the Army 10 is a great training run!
I'm psyched to start marathon training. I ran for about 3 minutes today at a .5 incline and a 16+ mile pace. Yeah! (it was my first day at the gym)

Sign-ups have already begun and the website reports that the spots go fast... www.armytenmiler.com

Hey, there are already 5 people from the Manassas SMR "Try Running" group signed up for the ATM, and it just opened yesterday. This is our signature race. When 5 of us started running together in Jan 2006, as a group we averaged 3 mile runs. By Oct 2006, all 5 of us ran the Army 10 miler! We ran again in 2007, and yes, we'll be there in 2008.

I've got family there, so it just might be possible!
I hope it doesn't sell out!

Okay! I signed up! My mom lives there and since I visit her a few times a year, I might as well fit a race in!

Great idea! I live close by, but as I am due at the end of July, I don't think I can commit to it in time for registration. Perhaps the Cherry Blossom Run next spring?

I am a bad, bad racer because I always run races with my iPod nano (I put in only one earbud, so I can hear everything). And the Army 10 Miler acually wands you down to make sure you don't bring them onto the race course (though I always see rebel runners who have managed to sneak them in -- don't know how). The organizers cite national security concerns -- as if any spectator couldn't have an iPod anywhere on the course to do something sinister with. (What that would be, I haven't a clue.) I love the race and the course, but I need my music! I know, bad, bad racer.

By Golly I'd do it. I was signed up to run in 2001 and 9/11 happened. I flew to DC anyhow and ran the route just so I could not be thwarted by those maniac terrorists. It was strange to fly so close to 9/11. I'll do it and we should have cool t'shirts.

I can't believe your name is Renae. I was so used to Our Little World...

I'm still unable to commit, but looking forward on behalf of those who have no problem with commitment:), who will design the T-shirts? Do we book an 'official' hotel--Andrea, this is an opportunity to plug and get the ladies a discount...

Other ideas?

I'm signed up. Let me know what the plan is.

By the way-- 10 miles is an awesome run. You are still human at the end and it is still hard, but not life altering where you give everything over to train for it.
